Schafer/Engberts BB 07
Crimp Monitor System

Schafer BB 07
  • Collection of measuring data with non-contact optical sensor.
  • Integration through programmable machine interface all, semi- and automatic machines.
  • Quality management by means of a printer, or PC interface.
  • Network capability for as many as 16 crimp monitor systems.
  • Attractive price-to-performance relationship.

Major Advantages of the Process

  • Utilisation of the existing ideal spring constant of the press
  • There is no need for an additional base plate (measuring plate) for the crimp tooling
  • No possibilities of reducing the manufacturing quality through manipulations on the crimp tooling or tooling mounting plate
  • The reason for this is that there is no additional integration of spring constants, tooling undercut or three-point support for pull or force sensors.
  • Minimal installation efforts
  • Longest life expectancy because of non-contact optical measuring
  • Connection for PC and Software (network capable)
  • Parametric machine connection
  • As many as 16 crimp monitor systems can be interconnected via integrated RS 485 connection
  • Suitable for all types of machines

Crimp Monitor System
Engberts/Schafer BB07

The crimp monitor system provides continuous Quality control during the manufacturing process. In case of a defect, the programmable, intelligent system can be used to request machine stoppage, sorting etc.

The Sensor

The measuring system (covered by patent) is based on a measuring process with non-contact optical way sensors in an encapsulated housing. With this new sensor technology, it is possible for the first time to measure longitudinal changes of materials, which are smaller than the wavelength of the light being used.

The Crimp Monitor

The crimp force curve established during the 'Teach-in Mode' is compared with every following actual force curve. Should a value extend beyond the set tolerance limit, then the display of the control monitor will indicate the failure mode.

Five push buttons and one key switch are on the front panel of the control monitor. The key switch makes it possible to get in to the 'Set-up Mode'. With the help of a user-friendly menu, programming can be done for the tolerance, the measuring values of the crimp force and the I/O connection.

The PC Program

The PC software BB 07cem provides the basis for a complete user-friendly system. The program BB 07cem makes it possible for the collection of measuring values, the recording of measuring data, and the graphic illustration of force values and statistical functions. It also allows for later parametric simulation of recorded measuring values, the transferring and loading of complete set-up instructions and the parametric operation of the entire system.
